Portugal became a member of the European Union in January 1 1986. One pro of Portugal joining the European Union was they were able to adopt the Euro which is the European Union currency. Another pro was they became allies with more countries which can really help defense wise. Also since they joined trading has boosted. Lastly it made the country more well known.

The European Union was formed to boost the relations between the
Governments
of the European countries and to strengthen the trade between the countries of Europe.
1949: the Eu was created
1973-1993: more countries started to join the Eu such as the United Kingdom’s.
1980:the fall of the Berlin wall in Germany
2000:the euro was created.
The purpose of the Eu is to unite Europe and to try to bring peace to the lands.
The Eu benefits Europeans one way it does is it boost trading which make the prices of things lower.
